English spineless red-fruited variety, resistant to American powdery mildew and of very high fruit quality. Replaces the Spinefree variety in the range and is better than Captivator. Suitable for organic or no-spray culture.
Crossing: Whinhams x (Captivator x Lancashire Lad)
Vigour: very vigorous and spreading, spineless, growth height 120 - 150 cm. The shrub can easily be shaped by pruning.
Site requirements: direct sun
Blossom: self-fertile, does not need a pollinator
Fruits: carmine red, large, round to oval, slightly hairy, weight on average 7 - 8 g
Taste: excellent taste properties, when fully ripe with an excellent full gooseberry aroma
Harvest season: early, mid-June
Yield: moderate and regular. From an adult shrub, 1.5 - 2 kg of tasty fruits can be harvested annually. The berries are suitable for fresh consumption and for processing.
Disease resistance: resistant to American gooseberry powdery mildew and gooseberry leaf spots
Frost resistance: fully hardy
