Interspecific Sweet Cherry x Sour Cherry hybrid. Interspecific crosses are a valuable possibility to enlarge the gene pool in cherry breeding and to insert new characteristics in cherry. The main goals in sweet and sour cherry breeding are fruit quality, resistance to biotic and abiotic stress, stable fruit set and resistance to brown rot and cherry leaf spot.
Crossing: sour cherry Nord Star х sweet cherry Valery Tschkalov, breeder Lilija Ivanovna Taranenko
Vigour: moderate, compact, overhanging. On the rootstock Gisela 5, the cherry is just a small compact tree, reaches a maximum height of 2.5 - 3 m, does not take up much space and is suitable for small gardens.
Blossom: partially self-fertile variety, brings better harvests when the sour cherries are available as pollinators. Sweet cherries are not suitable as pollinators.
Fruit: large, weight 7 g, dark red, firm, shiny
Pulp: juicy, pulp and juice dark red, freestone. Medium-sized stone.
Taste: harmonious, harmoniously sweet and sour
Harvest season: near Bratislava at the end of June
Special notes: very suitable for small gardens. The variety is valuable for its fruit quality, good health, and frost resistance. The advantage is the resistance to brown rot of stone fruit (Monilinia laxa) and leaf spot caused by the fungus Blumeriella jaapii.
