Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium) YAROSLAVNA

Large-fruited, dark red heart-shaped sweet cherry with excellent taste, resistant to Monilia (Monilinia laxa) and frost. The variety is undemanding to the climatic conditions and soil composition, so it is popular with gardeners.

Crossing: Drogana Yellow x unknown variety, breeder Lilija Ivanovna Taranenko, Ukraine-Donetsk. Released in 1997.
Vigour: on the rootstock Gisela 5, the cherry is just a small compact tree, reaches a maximum height of 2.5 - 3 m, does not take up much space and is suitable for small gardens. Forms a spherical, well-branched, medium-dense canopy.
Blossom: mid-early, cross-pollinate, need cross pollination with a different variety of sweet cherry. The flowers are partially resistant to late spring frosts.
Fruits: large, weight 9 - 10 g, round to oval, dark red, firm. Resistant to fruit cracking even in heavy rain and high humidity.
Pulp: dark red, juicy, semi-crispy, fragrant, freestone. Juice dense, dark red.
Taste: excellent dessert-sweet with a pleasant acidity
Harvest season: early, first decade of June
Yield: high and stable, an average of 60 - 80 kg / 10 year old tree. Full yield onset in 4th year after planting, but a small quantity of fruits could appear even in second year.
Special notes: unpretentious variety valuable for its fruit quality, good health and high frost resistance. Suitable for organic or no-spray culture.
