Walnut Tree (Juglans regia) FERNETTE®

French variety with good disease resistance and heavy yields. Needs low temperatures in winter for optimal yields.

Crossing: Franquette x Lara, INRA, 1995
Vigour: the tree grows medium strong, semi-erect. Medium late budding.
Blossom: blooms late, avoiding spring frosts. Blossom is protandrous, ie. male flowers bloom a little earlier than female flowers.
Pollination: a good pollinator is Fernor®
Nut: large, 32 – 36 mm diameter, spherical. Infructescence on side shoots.
Kernel: light color, fills the shell well. The kernel makes up 40 to 44% of the total weight of the nut.
Shell: thin, medium ridged, easy to open
Taste: very good
Harvest season: the fruits ripen in the first half of October
Yield: high, significantly higher than Franquette. Early onset.
Disease resistance: resistant to bacterial blight (Xanthomonas arboricola pathovar. juglandis) and anthracnose (Gnomonia leptostyla)
Frost resistance: the tree is completely hardy
