Citrus hybrid (Citrus wilsonii) ICHANG LEMON

The Ichang Lemon hybrid is a variety obtained by crossing a hybrid called "Ichang papeda" (Citrus ichangensis) with a pomelo (Citrus maxima). It originates from China, where it is called Shangyuan, meaning "fragrant ball". This fast-growing, sprawling tree is extremely beautiful, resembling a grapefruit with large, broad leaves. It produces clusters of large, bumpy, yellow grapefruit-like fruits that can be used as lemons. The fruits are extremely juicy, with each fruit producing up to half a cup of juice. When overripe, they taste like grapefruit and are quite edible with sugar. The Ichang Lemon is also very hardy and can withstand temperatures down to -12°C and below without permanent damage, as long as it is protected from the wind.

Crossing scheme: Ichang Papeda (Citrus ichangensis) x Pomelo (Citrus maxima), resulting in Citrus wilsonii.
Taste: Sour grapefruit, some slightly off-flavors, fair quality.
Use: Desserts, cooking, juice.
