Nectarine (Prunus persica var. nucipersica) RED GOLD

Red Gold ranks among the proven top nectarines, especially suitable for home gardeners. Together with the Fantasia, FlavourTop and Harblaze nectarine varieties, they form the basis of the varietal range of nectarines grown in Canadians Ontario. It withstands winter and cold enough to bring regular harvests even in areas where nectarines have not been grown so far. Red Gold tastes best when picked directly from the tree, then the contrast between the distinct floral aroma and honey sweetness combined with a slightly sour aftertaste stands out. It is this unique smell and taste that is responsible for the amazing popularity of the Red Gold nectarine among home gardeners. Red Gold is a great choice for anyone looking for a fruit tree that doesn't need a lot of care.

Origin: the Red Gold nectarine, as well as many other nectarines and peaches, was bred by Frederic W. Anderson
Vigour: moderately strong, does not take up too much space in the garden and does not require much work when cutting. If you create the foundation of the crown in the first and second year with a shaping cut, you can almost completely avoid a maintenance cut in the following years.
Blossom: Red Gold is a self-pollinating variety just like other peaches and nectarines
Fruit: medium-sized, freestone. The fruits have a long shelf life at room temperature. Do not store Red Gold nectarine in the refrigerator.
Fruit colour: the surface of the fruit is shiny purple-gold
Pulp: yellow, juicy, aromatic with an unforgettable taste
Harvest season: early to mid-August
Yield: due to the fact that Red Gold is well adapted to cold and unstable weather, the harvest is stable every year
Disease resistance: better resistance to leaf curl (Taphrina deformans) than other varieties
Frost resistance: hardy
