Asian pear (Pyrus pyrifolia) CHUHWANG

Winter variety of large-fruited Asian pear, SUITABLE FOR LONG-TERM STORAGE, very popular in Japan and South Korea, where it was bred. The fruits are characterized by excellent taste and long shelf life.

Crossing: Geumchonchu x 20th century (Nijisseiki), Research Institute of Horticulture, South Korea, 1967. Approved in 1985.
Vigour: strong, upright to semi-upright, forms a well-branched canopy
Blossom: cross-pollinate variety, needs another apple pear for pollination. The flowers contain a large amount of pollen, making it compatible with other Nashi varieties and at the same time an excellent pollinator.
Fruits: very large, average weight 400 - 450 grams, elongated. The peel is smooth to slightly rough, light yellow-brown, firm and dry. The tendency for fruit cracking is low. The fruits are excellent for fresh consumption, but also for processing into jams, compotes or spicy winter salads.
Pulp: milky white, crispy while very juicy, aromatic with a fine consistency. The sugar content is high, on average 14.5 Brix. The core is small, contains some small black seeds.
Taste: excellent, balanced, sweet and sour, aromatic
Harvest season: ripens gradually from mid-October. Storage at room temperature is possible for up to 120 days without any change in taste properties, when stored in the refrigerator the fruits can be kept for up to 150 day
Location: warm and medium locations with sufficient moisture
Disease Resistance: resistant to leaf spot disease (Alternaria Kikuchiana), low susceptibility to fire blight (Erwinia amylovora)
