Almond (Amygdalus communis) LAURANNE

Late flowering self-fertile sweet almond variety. Little disease susceptible and cold tolerant. French INRA started the self-fertile almond breeding program in 1970, using wild almond Prunus webbii as the genetic source for autocompatibility.

Crossing: Ferragnès x Tuonto, France (INRA) 1989. Released in 1991.
Vigour: moderate, final height 4 - 5 m
Site requirements: sunny, thrives on dry, well-drained, permeable, humus-rich soil
Blossom: self-fertile variety, blooms late in mid-March. Light pink flowers are very decorative.
Pollinator: the big advantage is self-pollination, otherwise pollination by bees could become problematic in bad weather during the flowering period
Fruits: large kernels with a pleasantly delicious taste. The kernel content is 35-40%.
Harvest season: late September - early October
Yield: high, regular, early yield onset
Frost resistance: to -15°C
