Siberian plum (Prunus x hybrid) KOMETA

Mid-early Siberian plum intended mainly for northern growing areas with cold winters and unsettled spring weather. Very valuable for quality fruits with excellent taste, adaptability, rich yields, high frost resistance and resistance to Plum pox virus. An interspecific hybrid of Cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera), Japanese plum (Prunus salicina), Ussurian plum (Prunus ussuriensis) and Chinese plum (Prunus simonii).

Crossing: Skoroplodnaya x Pionerka, breeders G.V. Yeremin, S.N. Zabrodina, 1987
Skoroplodnaya was created by crossing the hybrid plum Climax (Prunus salicina x Prunus simonii) from the American breeder Luther Burbank with the Ussurian plum Ussuriyskaya Krasnaya (Prunus ussuriensis). Pionerka was created by crossing Prunus cerasifera x Prunus salicina.
Vigour: weak, canopy oval, moderately dense
Blossom: the variety is partially self-fertile, so it produces crops even without the presence of pollinator. If there is a pollinator nearby, the harvest will be higher and more stable. A suitable pollinator is another variety of Siberian plum, Japanese plum or Cherry plum. Blooming flowers and young fruits are resistant to mild frost.
Fruits: weight 50 to 60 g, oval shape. Basic color yellow, covered with burgundy red on 80% of the fruit surface. The fruits have a high marketable quality, are resistant to cracking and good transportable. The advantage is that they hold well on the tree for a long time after ripening. Suitable for fresh consumption and processing.
Pulp: juicy, medium firm, yellow-orange-red colored, aromatic, freestone
Taste: harmonious, more sweet than sour
Harvest season: late June
Yield: high, stable and regular, early yield onset
Disease and frost resistance: high, Plum pox virus resistant variety
Usage: the variety is particularly suitable for peripheral areas of stone fruit cultivation. Suitable for organic or no-spray culture.
